All these products have two things in common. Stating the obvious, the first is that they were all massive let downs and the second being that I had EXTREMELY high hopes for them all. Usually if I'm not the biggest fan of a product I'll try to use it up since I don't want to be wasteful, but these are the products that could just not be saved.
I picked up the Nars Sheer Matte Foundation in the shade Light 2 last year with a gift card I received for my birthday. A couple of months prior I had picked up the Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer and absolutely loved everything about it, so going into Mecca I thought the foundations would have the same fabulousness about them. Wrong. This product was a bit cheeky because as the makeup artist applied it to my jawline it blended really well and seemed like a great colour match; even covering a pimple in the process. I didn't get the chance to use it until the following week when I was going out for dinner. First I tried to apply it with my fingers and it came across incredibly streaky. Next I tried using my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. Nope. Super patchy and just kind of sat on top of my face without blending. The colour of it also changed quite quickly after a while and it oxidised to a terrible orange colour. So I gave up and popped it in the back of my cupboard not wanting to throw it out and be wasteful. I actually forgot about it until last week when my second BeautyBlender arrived. If anything could apply this troublesome foundation, I thought it would be this. Nope. The marvellous BeautyBlender could not even save it. I tried a lighter coverage then tried building it up. Nothing worked. It looked absolutely terrible, so I decided to just throw it away. I later found out this foundation has been discontinued by Nars and for good reason. Nars just need to take their concealer formula and bottle it in a nice big pump bottle.
I was so excited when I received the So Susan Flutter Mascara because everything about it seemed lovely. The beautiful gold packaging with the hummingbird decal. So Susan's stance on cruelty free cosmetics. The deep black colour of the mascara. Then I applied it. This is probably one of the worst mascaras I've used. The brush on it is quite good but the formula is what lets us all down. It is incredibly runny and applies terribly. It makes lashes appear stumpy and gives no lift. It also takes close to a million years to dry (close to ten minutes) so you can't even blink without stamping your brows with runny black liquid. I wanted to try and use this up but I just couldn't. To the bin it goes.
Finally the Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Cream in Rio-D. I picked this up in a Priceline 2 for 1 deal and purchased the other shade, a beautiful bright vibrant red called NY-Cee, that I wore to a friends birthday party that night and received lots of lovely compliments. The bright red matte formula looks stunning on and gives an old Hollywood vibe. Just be sure to exfoliate those lips with your toothbrush beforehand because matte formulas pick up any trace of dryness or flakiness. The next day I applied the bright bright orange Rio-D formula and burst out laughing in the mirror. I looked ridiculous. I don't know whether the colour just didn't suit my skin but it just looked extremely comical, outdated and not pretty at all. I was contemplating saving it for some sort of 80's party but I really don't like products taking up space that I'm only going to use once in a blue moon.
