Empties #9

Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturiser
I LOVED this product. I received this in a beauty box a while back but never got around to using it, so it just gathered dust in my bathroom. So for the past few weeks I have been lathering this all over my body once I get out of the shower and my skin feels amazing, hydrated and incredibly soft. The smell is really beautiful and pleasant and it absorbs really well once applied. Unfortunately the Jergens brand is owned by Kao, which is a massive company, that owns a lot of beauty brands in America and who also sell in China. While they say they don’t test their products and are anti-animal testing advocates, they do allow for the Chinese product testing. So that makes them not cruelty free and even though I was head over heels for this moisturiser, I will not be repurchasing. There are plenty of bunny friendly alternatives out there. NOT CRUELTY FREE.

Inika Truly Organic Pure Primer
This was the second Inika primer I have used up and I am still just as obsessed with it as the first time I wrote about it. This doesn’t break out the skin, smoothes over lines and imperfections and leaves a beautiful healthy base for makeup to glide over. It’s organic, not tested on animals and feels like an expensive moisturiser on the skin. I will definitely repurchase this once I have used up the Mary Kay primer I have; it is an absolute treat for the skin. Cruelty Free. Vegan.

Bioderma Sebium AKN
I picked this up from Priceline when my moisturiser ran out and I thought I’d try something new. I have always had good experiences with Bioderma products and they have never broken me out, so when I saw their range for acne prone skin I thought I would pick up the moisturiser. It is meant to help treat acne prone skin and stop blocked pores and breakouts by using Salicylic Acid as an in house exfoliator while you’re moisturizing. I didn’t really notice a difference in my skin when I was using this, at best it could have stopped new breakouts coming through for all I know but it certainly didn’t do much for the occasional pimple on my face. When I picked this up I did have a bout of hormonal acne on my chin and after a week of using I decided to pop over to the Paula’s Choice Beautypedia (which I should have done before actually purchasing the product) to see how the active ingredients actually go with acne prone skin. Turns out the percentage of salicylic acid in the product is actually too low to help acne prone skin and it is at best just a basic moisturiser. As a moisturiser it was alright. I used this under my makeup because it did leave skin quite matte and stopped shine so it was quite good as a skin primer. When I did use it I experienced the occasional stinging around my nose where I have the biggest problem with enlarged pores so that was also another concern. I’ve finished up the tube and I will definitely not repurchase this. It didn’t live up to its claims and I would probably give it a 2 out of 10. Bioderma also test on animals (which I didn’t know when I purchased this a few months back) so that is a big no no and another reason I won’t be going back. NOT CRUELTY FREE.

Mac Fix+ Spray
My obsession with the Fix+ spray by Mac has officially come to an end! I have loved using this spray as a skin primer, for finishing off makeup and refreshing the face for the last couple of years and now as I have decided to go fully cruelty free this one will be my last. It is a pity because Mac actually used to be cruelty free until they were bought out, so hopefully in the future they will get a backbone and return to their bunny friendly ways but for now, I will not be buying anymore Mac products. I still have some products that I will use up, but like I said I will not repurchase. Man I am going to miss the refreshing cucumber scented spray, especially as we are getting into the warmer months, but I am now on the hunt for a new spray which will be exciting! NOT CRUELTY FREE.
