While I was waiting patiently for my Beauty
Blender Solid Cleanser to ship in from overseas I decided to pop into a Priceline and
pick up an affordable brush cleaner to give them a good cleanse in the mean time. I asked the
girl at the counter her recommendations and she told me that the top two sellers instore were from Models Prefer and Artiste. I decided to pick up the Models
Prefer version purely for the fact it had a safety seal and the Artiste one
doesn’t. I hate buying anything that doesn’t have a quality seal because anyone
can do anything to that product from when it sits on the shelf to when you buy
it. Yes I know that sounds extremely paranoid and like I’m sitting here in my
little tin foil hat typing away, but it’s just something I’ve always done.
‘An
anti-bacterial spray, designed to keep brushes hygienically clean. Use between
makeup applications to remove traces of product. Suitable for powder, foundation, blush, eye and lip brushes with synthetic or natural bristles'
This is a really great brush cleaner for
the price but if you’re sensitive to smells I must warn you that this is
INTENSE and that is because it is only made up of two ingredients that are
Isopropyl Alcohol and fragrance. Isopropyl Alcohol has many uses as a cleaning
tool due to its antibacterial properties and it is something you will likely
find in hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol and disinfectants because of how
quickly it dries and doesn’t leave behind any residue. The second ingredient ‘fragrance’
doesn’t really specify on what it is but from what my nose can tell me it is a
coconut or vanilla scent that the manufactures added in there because of how
strong it is but in reality it hasn’t really made a difference.
To use this you just spray your brush with
it about four times and then wipe it off on the back of a cloth to remove the
product. I use paper towel because I find it more hygienic and also because
the ridges and grooves in it act kind of like a exfoliant. It is also a lot cheaper
than buying an expensive brush cleaning glove which essentially does the same
thing.
I find depending on the brush and products
on it, you might have to spray a second time. Powder brushes only take
one go, but anything with liquid can take two or three times to get them completely
clean. Once you can’t see any product left on the brush just lay them to dry on
a towel or face washer, no rinsing required!
This gave my brushes a really great clean
and I use this mostly to spot clean them when I don’t have the time to use the
Solid Cleanser from Beauty Blender. This is also a more cost effective cleaner
than the Solid as you get a lot more uses out of it for the price, it lasts a
lot longer and it is also anti bacterial which the Beauty Blender soap is not.
But just be aware of how strong that smell actually is because it could be a
deal breaker for quite a few people.
Models Prefer is an Australian cruelty free
brand, so it is bunny friendly, and you can find it stocked exclusively at
Priceline for $12.99
