June Favourites

BeautyBlender Solid BlenderCleanser
Best makeup brush cleaner EVER. I’ve tried so many and while they were all great at removing eyeshadow and other powders from brushes and sponges, I could never get the brushes I had used with liquid foundations and concealers completely clean. I would end up having to resort to using eye makeup remover and that can be quite costly. I needed to order another beauty blender because my only one was getting so much use, so I decided to order the pack that included the BlenderCleanser. Best decision ever because I have found my Holy Grail brush cleaner. It’s a little circle of freshly scented soap that gets every hint of makeup off brushes in mere seconds. I try to wash my brushes after every use at least and I’ve barely made a dint in the soap, so it does last quite a while and you’ll be able to get a lot more uses out of it than a traditional liquid brush cleaner. Cruelty Free

De Lorenzo et Oil Balance Treatment
This is a pre shampoo oil spray treatment that is great for dry or heat damaged hair. Just spray from roots to ends, comb through, tie up in a bun and leave for 15 minutes. This leaves hair feeling healthy, silky and ridiculously soft. For some reason it also leaves my hair REALLY straight, to the point where if I use this the night before I don’t even need to style it the next day. Cruelty Free.

REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream
When I ran out of my Go-To Skincare face cream but hadn’t had the chance to order another tube yet, I decided to pop into Mecca to pick something up for the time being. While I loved the Very Useful Face Cream, I wanted to keep it solely for nighttime use and find another product to use just for during the day. So I went into my local Mecca and had a chat to the lovely girl about how I recently cleared up my acne and wanted something to address the redness leftover but still be a hydrating and light cream for during the day. She asked me my price range and I told her I didn’t really have one because to me, skincare is something you should invest good money in.  So she took me over to the REN stand and told me a little about the brand and handed me the Global Protection Day Cream which was absolutely perfect for me. The cream is great for sensitive skin and keeps it hydrated and protected from irritants. It’s also free from parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes and petro chemicals and is instead filled with lots of powerful antioxidant ingredients. It is a little bit thick but it does absorb quite well into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and healthy. Since I brought this product I haven’t suffered from irritated or dry skin from the cold winter days and it’s helping soothe the existing redness on my face. Love. Love. Love. I really want to try more products from this brand. Cruelty Free.

GHD Ceramic Vented Radial Brush in Size 3
I always wanted to recreate a salon style blow wave at home but always struggled with using a round brush during the process. Well not anymore, this GHD brush is essentially fool proof. While the bristles may seem sharp, they give a much better grip at the root of the hair and also are a lot sleeker when brushing through knotted strands with the blow drier. Also because it is a ceramic brush it retains heat to make at home blow-dries quicker and a bit more care free. This is such great quality and the longer handle makes it easier to get to the harder to reach places at the back of your head. Cruelty Free.

Sample Showdown #1

Since I’ve been documenting my empties I thought I might as well do the same with all the samples I’ve accumulated through being subscribed to so many beauty boxes.
That way in the future I can refer back to these posts if I’m thinking of buying new products to see the pros and cons of these little and sometimes big samples and whether they are worth the cash.

Pureology Pure Volume Blow-dry Amplifier
This is by far one of the worst hair products that I’ve ever used. It’s a clear gel that you are to apply to your hair, roots especially, when damp and then blow-dry for extraordinary volume. The first sign that this was not going to be fun was the mere seconds you have to apply it to your hair before it dries to industrial strength superglue. Then the next challenge is getting your round brush through those gluey locks to perfect a blow-dry. What you are left with is stringy straw like hair that sounds like someone is eating potato chips when you touch it. I applied most through my roots but mistakenly applied some throughout the ends to see how it would work. I looked like a scarecrow and ended up having to rewash the ends of my hair in the bathroom sink 20 minutes before I had to leave for work. Cruelty Free.

Indio Multi-V Serum
I LOVED this. If it weren’t for the crazy expensive price tag for a tiny bottle (say goodbye to $139) I would use this on my face twenty times a day. It's a clear serum with tiny little beads that look like hundreds and thousands throughout it. First you rub the serum into your skin until you are left with the beads all over your face which you then press against your skin until they pop. The Multi V Serum is meant to address skin concerns like congestion, redness and help prompt cellular activity in the skin for rejuvenation. Normally with these types of buzzwords tossed around skincare I think it's all a load of bull. But for the next three days when I woke up in the morning after applying it the night before I looked like a glowy new person. The redness on my face from acne was significantly less, my skin felt calm and relaxed instead of angry. It was like a brand new face in a bottle. It was extremely soothing and didn't feel heavy on my face at all. The smell isn't that great but it is completely worth it. The Multi V Serum is chockers full of vitamins A and F, Biotin, plus multiple anti inflammatory, anti-oxidants and anti-bacterial ingredients which makes it the perfect serum for acne prone skin. Trust me, the results you’ll see in the morning are astounding. Australian Made and Cruelty Free.

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser
It was quite a few months before I actually tried this product for two reasons. Firstly I’m not a fan of jar packaging for hygiene and ingredient quality reasons. Secondly the cleanser looked really harsh and course, something that I shy away from now I'm more of a fan of chemical instead of physical exfoliators. The smell of this is beautiful and lemon fresh. You apply this to wet hands and rub between your fingers to create a custom exfoliation. The more water you add to the scrub the more it foams up and the less scrubby it becomes. I'm not going to lie, my skin absolutely LOVED this. I added quite a bit of water to it so it was 98% foam cleanser and 2% scrub and applied all over my face, neck and chest. It left my skin feeling completely cleansed, fresh and without any sign of makeup or dry skin. After drying my face it felt soft and supple instead of tight and sore like some foaming cleansers can cause. I'm really curious to try some of their other products now. Cruelty Free.

StriVectin-EV Serum
This serum felt beautiful on the skin when applied and is meant to help the skin tone appear brighter and diminish dark spots by 8 weeks of use. It smelt really beautiful and luxourious but I was a bit worried reading the ingredient list after a bit of online digging. Orange oil is an inflammatory to the skin and along with ingredients that can actually cause skin discolouration; I don't think it is worth it in the long run. In the short run though it did leave my skin feeling ridiculously soft and helped calm redness a little bit. This brand does actually test on animals, so it is going to be a no from me. TESTS ON ANIMALS.

Nuxe Creme Nirvanesque
Holey moely. I want to add this to my list of products that I would love to dive into and swim around in. While this is targeted for fine lines I think it would be a wonderful cream for anyone. I can’t really comment on if it did anything for wrinkles because that isn’t a skin concern for me but I can comment on how amazing this made my skin feel. The scent is amazing and so day spa like and when applied it absorbs so quickly which would make it great under makeup. Nuxe does not test on animals themselves but they do sell in China, which is essentially the same thing. This is really disappointing because I wont be able to re purchase this wonderful face cream. Full sized this is sold in jar packaging which is another negative. NUXE, I’m speaking on behalf of everyone when I say stop selling in China, return to your cruelty free roots and package this in a pump and this would be a holy grail face cream for everyone in the world. TESTS ON ANIMALS.

Garnier Moisture Match for Normal Skin
This was a basic moisturiser that kept skin hydrated but really isn’t anything special. I really wasn’t wowed by it and that’s all I can say. I had seen these products by Garnier advertised throughout countless magazines and wasn’t really that tempted to try it in the beginning, so at least it lived up to its expectations for me. TESTS ON ANIMALS.

John Plunkett Glyco Peel
I REALLY wanted to love this. Before using the 25% glycolic overnight peel I did a lot of research online and read amazing reviews of how it had changed peoples skin and how they saw immediate results. This is used on rotation by applying every night without washing off for seven days then giving the skin a break for seven days and repeating. When I first applied I felt a slight sting and tingle around my nose which according to the reviews was normal. I then applied my moisturiser over the top and went to bed, eager to see luminous skin in the morning. But nothing. Okay. I thought it might take a while to work. I applied the second night and in the morning noticed nothing but a small pimple on my chin. I decided to give it one more go and really wish I hadn’t. When I woke up the third morning I had incredibly sore pimples all over my chin and jaw and one GIANT pimple that felt like it had its own heart beat right above my chin. Considering the past few months I’ve had really great skin without a single pimple. Personally I don’t believe in “purging” when it comes to skin products and treatments. If you’re breaking out from using new products it isn’t purging, it’s your skin having a bad reaction to certain ingredients and you should stop using it right away. My dermatologist told me this one-day when I was having microdermabrasion done when I was at the peak of my bad skin problems. Ever since that day I stuck with products that hydrated and soothed my skin without breakouts and binned anything that gave a reaction and have had pretty great skin ever since. Until this product, so I threw it out. Don’t buy into the whole purging hoo-hah and listen to what your skin is telling you. Cruelty Free and Australian Owned.

Lust Have It June 2015

Lust Have It certainly delivered this month in value with including all full sized products worth $149.84. Considering the box costs $19.95 a month that is a pretty good deal. It also seems like Lust Have It have caught up with their shipping because the June box actually arrived in June! Hooray! Lust Have It has also been incredibly amazing to deal with. They asked their subscribers which shade of three Teeez lipsticks they would like and we got to select our shade. Of course I chose the red colour, but when my box was shipped LHI emailed to say they accidentally sent out the caramel shade instead but they would be sending my selected red shade separately and that I would get to keep both lipsticks. So generous, it seems they are finally overcoming all the problems from the past months. This months theme was 'Head Over Heels':

Teeez Trend Cosmetics Eve's Ready To Wear Lipstick in Rebellious Red
I LOVED this shade. My favourite red lipstick is Fire & Ice by Revlon, but due to my cruelty free commitment I will no longer be able to wear it once I finished up the tube. But I think I’ve actually found the perfect dupe for it. This beautifully bright classic red is extremely pigmented and glossy. It applies like butter and is a great lipstick for winter prone lips. I've received a few products from Teeez cosmetics and every single one of them has been beyond brilliant. This is definitely a brand to get behind. Full Size $32 and Cruelty Free

Teeez Trend Cosmetics Eve's Ready To Wear Lipstick in Classy Caramel
This is the shade I accidentally received and I wasn't too sure that I would like it because I don't usually wear deep caramel colours. But this isn't too brown and leans more on the red side. It's like a beautiful deep dark chocolaty red colour that is giving me total 90's glamazon supermodel feel. I will definitely get a lot of use out of this shade in winter; it's the perfect Autumn/Winter red. Another great thing about Teeez is their beautiful and luxurious packaging. The lippies come in rose gold tubes and are absolutely stunning. Full Size $32 and Cruelty Free

NAK Thermal Shield
I'm really excited to try this thermal shield because not only does it protect against heat tools but it also claims to also weatherproof your hair against humidity and frizz. This will get a lot of use during the summer months and it's always great to have some extra heat protectant in your bathroom cupboard. Full Size $25.95 and Cruelty Free

Chapstick Hydration Lock
I'm a bit confused about this product purely because the product card shows it packaged but mine came loose. It hasn't been used of course, but it is always settling to have products come with safety seals. This double side Chap Stick is meant to keep lips moisturised by applying the hydration side first, which is nice and light, and then applying the thick moisture lock side to keep lips doubly hydrated. This felt really rich on my lips without being too heavy and instantly got rid of any signs of dryness. Full Size $4.99 and NOT Cruelty Free

The Cosmetic Kitchen Peppermint Foot Mask
I still have the two facemasks from Cosmetic Kitchen in my bathroom cupboard because I just can't be bothered. You have to mix it up like a recipe to use it and that just doesn't appeal to me. I like my facemasks straight from the tube and right onto my face, I’m just a bit too impatient. Much like the facemasks, the peppermint foot mask is one you have to follow the recipe to create. I hope I will get around to using them eventually as the Australian vegan brand really appeals to me but at the moment this will join the facemasks. Full Size $24.95 and Cruelty Free

The Cosmetic Kitchen Wake Up Body Scrub
Unlike the face and foot masks, this body scrub goes right onto dry skin before showering to buff away at dead skin. It's a mix of raw sugar, organic coffee, alkalising salts, organic clay and pure essential oils. I'm actually really excited to use this because it's a bit more no nonsense and straight to the point than the other products. Full Size $29.95 and Cruelty Free

Violet Box June 2015

Violet Box has seriously delivered once again and this is one of my favourite boxes ever. It was packed full of full sized products and great cruelty free brands to discover. In fact every product featured was cruelty free! The June box was actually delivered in June, so their wonderful delivery is back on schedule as the last couple I’ve received have been a bit late. If you like lip products, this was definitely the box for you.

Starlooks Lip Gloss in Cuddle
This lip gloss is teeny tiny but I wish more makeup brands made products in this size. Lip gloss especially are hard to finish the whole tube and this size is perfect for me. The lip gloss itself is a beautiful shimmery nude shade that is one of those universally flattering colours. Even though it claims its non-stick, I found the formula is a bit sticky but it kept my lips nice and hydrated against the harsh winter winds. If more cosmetics companies made their products in this size it would be way more hygienic and a lot easier to go through products. Full Size $14 and Cruelty Free

Doucce Ultra Precision Waterproof Eye Liner in 500 Black
Even though I've received a lot of eyeliners through beauty boxes, this one is one of the best. When I swatched it on the back of my hand it applied like an absolute dream. So velvety. So creamy. The control over this pencil is amazing and would be great to use for doing a cat eye for people that find liquid liner a bit fiddly. Once dried it does not budge. I tried smudging it on the back of my hand and the colour didn't go anywhere. Such a gem. Full Size $30 and Cruelty Free

Gascoigne & King Candle in Love Vanilla
This smells EXACTLY like the Glasshouse candles used in the Peter Alexander stores. When I opened it up I thought I was actually buying overpriced pyjamas instead of standing in my kitchen. The vanilla and hazelnut candle comes packaged in a gorgeous little tin and smells absolutely luxe. Full Size $25 and Cruelty Free

Mullein & Sparrow Tinted Lip & Cheek Balm
This smells absolutely delicious, like Terry’s Chocolate Orange. It is a gorgeous tiny tin of vegan goodness that is so light but with the slightest hint of colour. The colour is really sheer but gives a natural dewy finish. Full Size $22 and Cruelty Free

Jing Ai Velvet Shine Lip Jewel Crayon in Pink-A-Boo
When I decided to switch to cruelty free I realised that it meant that once finished up, I wont be able to repurchase my beloved Clinique Chubby Sticks. Then I opened up this lip crayon and all my worries vanished because this is a million times better than its competition from Clinique. It's incredibly pigmented and applies like a dream. The colour is the most wonderful shade of Barbie pink and it is also completely cruelty free. It's long lasting and filled with 100% natural macadamia seed oil, Shea butter and jojoba seed oil. I'm absolutely in love. Full Size $29 and Cruelty Free
