Nude By Nature Review

I have wanted to try the Nude by Nature range for quite a while and finally found the opportunity when Priceline held a 40% off cosmetics sale. I picked up the Complexion Start Up Kit and the BB 5-in-1 Miracle Cream and went home with my hopes high and full of excitement to try them out. Then when I realised my subscription to Cleo ran out I re-subscribed for 24 months and received a ‘Blush For Cover’ by Nude By Nature gift set for free. Suddenly my bathroom was filled with lots of mineral goodies. So on my day off and with a bare face, I decided to try all the products out. I had such high hopes of finally finding skin friendly products that are full of friendly minerals instead of nasty chemicals. Nude by Nature claims that you can even sleep in their products and it won’t irritate your skin. So how did the products work for me? Absolutely terrible. So bad. Just the worst. I’m so glad I didn’t pay full price for these because my wallet would have been disappointed as well.

Complexion Start Up Kit
My first clue that this was not going to end well was the photos on the box. The girl on the left hand side went from looking like a fresh woman in her early 30’s to a woman in her late 40’s who is going through a mid life crisis after a messy divorce and overdosed on fake tan and makeup to mask her insecurities. Whenever you see before and after photos where the subject looks better before, please just run. Run far away. Especially if you’re at a plastic surgeon.

The start up kit contained:
Undercover Airbrush Primer
Natural Mineral Cover
Mineral Bronzer
Mineral Finishing Veil
Kabuki Brush

The first step was to apply the primer to help smooth the skins surface before application. I actually really liked this and will keep it to use with my regular liquid foundation. It smelled insanely delicious and felt light on my skin. It did a great job of filling in pores and fine lines while still being incredibly hydrating. Next I had to take the provided Kabuki brush and dip it in the mineral cover, swirl and tap it around a bit that then buff it onto my skin in ‘small circular notions’. It took a lot of product before I could finally see it on my skin and while the primer made my skin feel dewy and fresh the mineral cover took it all away and aged my skin about ten years. My skin looked dull and dry even though I have oily skin. But I wanted to finish the routine. Next I took the bronzer and applied it to the hollows of my cheeks and on my temples. This is just made me look straight up orange. I even used the smallest amount because I’m incredibly fair but it still made me look like I smeared terrible fake tan on my face and was super streaky. Next I took the Finishing Veil and applied all over my face to set the products and to absorb ‘excess oil’. It just made my face look drier and aged it about another five years. I stood back, looked at myself in the mirror and wondered if there was a 1300-EXTREMEMAKEOVER number I could call. I looked absolutely terrible. Nude by Nature claims that their products aim to help create a natural finish and my skin just looked dry, aged and haggard.

BB 5-in-1 Miracle Cream
After the catastrophe with the start up kit, I washed my face and had a go at using the BB cream. While I was in Priceline I swatched this on the back of my hand and immediately let out an excited yelp. THIS MATCHED MY COMPLEXION PERFECTLY. It blended straight it to my printer paper complexion. This is a rarity for me and I thought I hit the jackpot until I put it on my face. First it tried blending it with my fingers and it just disappeared. It was basically like a moisturiser and provided no coverage at all. Then I used my beauty blender and had the same issue. I could have just used my normal moisturiser and some NARS concealer to get better coverage. Severely disappointed.

Blush For Cover Kit
This kit contained a Mineral Cover and Liquid Mineral Concealer in the shade Medium, Limited Edition Cream Blush and a Limited Edition Mineral Brush.
The Mineral Cover and Concealer were just way too dark for my skin and after my catastrophe with the first Mineral Cover I used I just threw it straight into my reject pile. The brush was very cute but was shedding hairs before I even got a chance to use it. After all the disappointment with the previous products I didn’t have high hopes for the cream blush, but like some sort of miracle it actually turned out to be a gem of a product. The colour is a beautiful mauve pink shade that is bendable and gives a perfect flush of colour to the cheeks without looking too overdone. Which is all I wanted from the other products in the first place.

Even though I was really disappointed with this brand (considering the only product I adored was a free subscription gift) I’m not giving up hope on finding skin friendly mineral makeup. I will not have my mineral makeup dreams crushed by the promises of Nude by Nature.
