Go-To Skincare

Go-To Skincare is an Australian, cruelty free brand that is packed full of wonderful natural ingredients with a focus on whipping your skin into tiptop shape, and is the brainchild of the wonderful Zoe Foster-Blake who I’ve had the pleasure to meet on a couple of occasions. Seriously guys, she is even more crazy wonderful in real life than she is on social media (and she’s pretty crazy wonderful on social media as well). As someone who has had a horrible bout of acne in that past, I wanted to talk about how these products went with my skin type. One of the aims of Go-To was to create a group of products that all skin types could use, and they have seriously achieved this. So have a little gander at the products below:

Properly Clean
Properly Clean is a foaming cleanser that uses Willow Bark Extract as one of its ingredients, which is a much more gentler version of salicylic acid that is used in acne products. I’ve always used cream cleansers, so when I finally picked this one up it took some getting used to. Use one to two pumps of this wonderful cleanser to keep skin squeaky clean without drying it out and leaving you with a tight feeling face. Because none of us wants to look like we’ve just walked off the set of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Seriously Brandi, I mean, what have you done to your face, you used to be so beautiful. Now your face looks as tight and pulled back as Kimmy K’s rear in a pair of skinny jeans.

Exfoliating Swipeys
These exfoliating wipes have actually changed my life. As someone who used to be quite fond of harsh exfoliators like the St.Ives Apricot Scrub, it took me quite a while to get used to the idea of using chemical exfoliation instead of the harsh physical exfoliation I was used to. But when I had severe acne in my late teens and early twenties I did a lot of research and found out I was doing more harm than good with those harsh exfoliators. Because they contain those little beads that give you that  feeling of a proper scrub, those sharp little things actually damage the skin and cause micro tears that can lead bacteria to enter through those little cuts and of course, create more acne. It took me a long time to realise that you have to kill acne with kindness and gentle soothing products so you don’t inflame it and cause scarring. I wish I had a product like this when I was going through the worst of it, but now its here and I cant live without it. Exfoliating Swipeys use gentle chemical exfoliators like AHA’s (lactic acid) to pick up any dead skin cells and refine the skins texture. Once used, hold the pad up to the light and see how many little gross bits and pieces they’ve picked up off your skin. Luckily when I suffered from acne I didn’t have any deep scarring like pock marks, I just have a lot of pigmentation and redness that I can easily cover with some concealer, and I’ve found that these wipes are helping to reduce some of that pigmentation left behind. Truly an absolute gem of a product that everyone should have in his or her bathroom.

Face Hero
Another misconception about acne is that you should stay very far far away from facial oils. False. Wrong. You are mistaken sir or madam. In fact they are excellent for acne prone skin as acne can be caused when the glands in your skin that produce oil are not producing enough of it, so they work extra hard, like Lindsay Lohan trying to revive her career, and produce too much of it. That extra oil then blocks your skin and produces breakouts. Face oils such as face hero also contain a different type of oil than the one your skin produces, so it has treatment purposes instead. Oily skin types are also very often dehydrated skin types, so using a face treatment oil like this one helps give it a big drink. Face Hero treats dryness, inflammation, pigmentation (and many other skin nasties) by using a combination of 10 plant and nut oils such as almond and jojoba oil. You can use this morning and night, but I prefer to use it just at night before I go to bed.

Very Useful Face Cream
This face cream is geared towards fighting signs of premature ageing by using a star-studded ingredients list containing tonnes of antioxidants to help keep your skin hydrated and "stop free radicals (found in UV rays, smoking, environmental pollutants, toxins) attacking your skin".
A scary little statistic that I learnt from Go-To’s website is that 50-80% of radical damage done to our skin is done before the age of 21. Even though I have always worn sunscreen religiously, have never touched a cigarette, never touched drugs and only have the odd gin and tonic or glass of champagne on special occasions, this is still a pretty scary statistic to me. I know right, I’m such a goody two shoes, but you know what guys? I’m pretty proud of that, because to me you would have to have some seriously massive rocks in your head to bake your skin, give yourself lung cancer and to take drugs. So stop it, you’re all smarter than that! Stop acting like such hooligans. Anyway, back on topic we go! Even though I have avoided many of the nasties listed, I still like to take preventative measures, and using this face cream is one of them. Even though it’s described as lightweight, I find it a bit heavy for my skin, so like Face Hero, I only use it at night. Trust me, when you wake up in the morning, you can seriously tell the difference in your skin. It looks brighter, plumper and a lot happier.

Lips!
Delicious. Wonderful. Hydrating. These are just a few of the words to describe Lips! Made with medical grade lanolin and other goodies such as vitamin E, this super balm helps to treat sore cracked lips and leave them hydrated and with a glossy shine. My tube lives permanently in the pocket of my handbag.

Exception-Oil
This smells like an absolute dream! I use this body oil all over my legs after I shave them or just all over my body after I have a shower and have exfoliated top to toe! It leaves you with beautiful silky soft skin that smells divine (and also leaves your bed sheets smelling scrumptious) and absorbs really quickly, meaning you’re not walking around with an oil slick all over your body. It’s made with certified Monoi de Tahiti, which are beautiful Tahitian gardenias. I use this only as a body oil but you can use it as a hair treatment, to tame fly aways, mix in a few drops with foundation to provide a dewey finish or add a few drops to your bath.

If you want to try some of these delightful products, they are only available off the hilarious and sassy Go-To website: http://www.gotoskincare.com/
